Wade in the water poems5/12/2023 The poems in “Wade in the Water” are full of memorable images nimbly put together by Smith’s exquisite sense of timing and her feel for the kind of language appropriate to the poem. In her last two books we see the results of that lesson. She realized that vivid imagery could go far toward condensing a poem’s narrative and conveying feelings. She turned to photography for about a year during an extended writer’s block, and when she did get back into writing, everything felt different. “I’m going to let go of the first person,” she told herself. Smith once told an interviewer that when she had finished writing her first book, she felt she had gotten off her chest all she had to say and was tired of herself.

In ancient monuments as far apart as Egypt's Great Sphinx, the strange Andean ruins of Tihuanaco, and Mexico's awe-inspiring Temples of the Sun and Moon, he reveals not only the clear fingerprints of an as-yet-unidentified civilization of remote antiquity, but also startling evidence of its vast sophistication, technological advancement, and evolved scientific knowledge. intriguing and entertaining and sturdy enough to give a long pause for thought."- Kirkus Reviews In Fingerprints of the Gods, Hancock embarks on a worldwide quest to put together all the pieces of the vast and fascinating jigsaw of mankind's hidden past. Could the story of mankind be far older than we have previously believed? Using tools as varied as archaeo-astronomy, geology, and computer analysis of ancient myths, Graham Hancock presents a compelling case to suggest that it is.

Addictarium by Nicole D'Settēmi5/12/2023 Some WebFilms are lyric-less, while others use lyrics as the central theme. I typically like to clash classic rock songs with my photography and poetry. I've combined my poetry, photography, and other forms of art, when designing these WebFilms, allowing each one to tell its own new, and unique story. My signature style is tagged 'PHOetry-in-motion' which is a concept I developed entirely on my own. I use a lot of my amateur poetry, and photography, to create my own unique style of WebFilms. I have been writing since I was a child and plan to continue to do so on a personal level until my mind no longer permits me to. Or, at very LEAST, an outlet allowing me to get in touch with my inner-demons to better understand them. Poetry and writing (visual | other art forms) have been the only outlets I've had to try and fend off some of my demons. I have 'struggled' with drug addiction for nearly ten years and have been battling my disorders, compulsions, demons and other deficiencies of the human condition, for most of my life. To be perfectly honest to mark me as merely " flawed, " would likely be an understatement. Over-analysis and severe neurosis, my weaknesses. Creativity and intuition are my strong points. Characteristically, I am an intense, passionate and fiercely loyal human being. I tend to give the impression of a very dark and complicated human being a large percentage of the time, however, I do have a very great (very dark) sense of humor. " A poem is a naked person.some people say that I am a poet." ~ Bob Dylan

Legion by Brandon Sanderson5/11/2023 Every time a new character was introduced, I wondered if this was the moment we find out this is all in his Leeds’ head. The hook is set right from the very beginning. All in all, this is a terrific intro into a story. Ivy, the shrink Tobias the… well, guy who seems full of every history and political science fact ever and even a guy who thinks he is a dethroned King. Right off the bat, we are introduced to various aspects of Leeds’ personality. A majority of the story left me wondering if this wasn’t all some elaborate fantasy. This is part of the fun of a story like this one. Well, this assumes you believe Leeds at all. You see, Leeds is a genius, and those aspects help him channel it. Each of these aspects help Leeds by offering their own specialized skill sets, and Leeds uses these skills as a consultant of sorts. His hallucinations live with him in his massive mansion. Leeds has multiple personalities, but this just isn’t a normal case of a man who hallucinates. This novella follows Stephen Leeds–or Mr Legion as he is sometimes called–a man with a unique condition. LEGION ( Amazon) is a novella by Brandon Sanderson, published by the fantastic Subterranean Press. But sometimes I just don’t want to read a 1000 page Stormlight Archive novel. See, I really like Brandon Sanderson‘s work. There is a nice sense of focus in these works, and they serve as a refreshing change of pace and scope while usually maintaining the integrity of that author’s writing ability. I love reading short fiction by my favorite novelists.

For whom the bell tolls spanish5/11/2023 The parliamentary seats won in this election were divided between the leftists and rightists in such a way that an extremely dangerous situation was created. In the spring of 1931, after several years of civil strife and strikes, municipal elections were held in Spain. Since that war has tended to slip into the dimness of the shadow cast by World War II, the following review of historical and biographical background should clarify a number of things pertinent to the novel. Many young men from the United States and other countries joined the Spanish Loyalist forces in defense of democratic ideals in a war that was won by the dictator, Francisco Franco. In reality, the Spanish Civil War was the first battleground for World War II, testing the forces of Nazism, Communism, and Fascism against either the republican or royal form of government. Later, in 1937, he went to Spain to cover the war for the North American Newspaper Alliance. He predicted the civil war would begin in 1935, and when it erupted in 1936, Hemingway began writing and making speeches to raise funds for the Loyalist cause. He had visited Spain again during the summer of 1931 after the overthrow of the monarchy. While still a foreign correspondent in Paris, Hemingway had watched the Spanish political situation developing under the reign of Alfonso XIII. For Whom the Bell Tolls, published in 1940, grew out of Hemingway's personal interest in the Spanish Civil War of the thirties.

Big red barn by margaret wise brown5/11/2023 None of those qualities are lost in this edition of Margaret Wise Brown's classic. Her pictures brim with personality, color and humor. I just know that my toddler likes it.įelicia Bond is very well-known for her illustrations in the "If You Give." series, and rightfully so. It could be the lullaby effect of the book. It could be the animal noises interspersed in the story. That's why an adult at a child's bedtime would like. And, also like Goodnight Moon, as the book winds down, the phrases become shorter until they just disappear and the story is over. Its phrases end with a gentle rhyme, not forced-feeling rhyming couplets. It is about impossible to not lull your voice when reading it. Why?īig Red Barn, like Goodnight Moon, reads like a lullaby. I vaguely remembered that she had no children and died young - I was right: she never married, had no children and died of a post-surgery blood clot in 1952 at the age of 42. Before I wrote this review, I had to do a little research on the author. Another book has migrated downstairs for my review. |
